In 1957, a challenge was made by Oregon and answered by Washington. Twenty of the best horses from Washington
and Oregon were brought to Portland to settle the issue of which state had the fastest game horses.
Oregon won the first meet, and the outcome was the birth of the Annual Interstate Games Competition.
Completed Labor Day affairs held to date are show on the chart below.
We know of nowhere in the country where such a meeting between two sides, as in Interstate Meet between Oregon
and Washington, is held. A meeting between the "cream of the crop" game horses and riders of the two states is a
thrilling event, a great challenge, and the sportsmanship and spirit of competition as they are exhibited here are
unsurpassed anywhere.
All of us connected with Interstate Games, love and admire good horses and top competitors. When the meet
concludes we will have crowned Interstate Champions who will do a great job representing the Pacific Northwest in
western game competitions worldwide.
Not all of us exits a champion, but each one who participates knows that his or her effort is necessary and
appreciated. No matter what the end result -- and though we fiercely compete for top honors -- at the end of the
weekend we always part ways with the same spirit of friendship that makes this grand event the great one it is!
